Dr David Buil-Gil becomes the new Director of CrimRxiv.
, Senior Lecturer in Quantitative Criminology and Open Research Lead in the , has been appointed Director of , the global open access hub and repository for criminology research.
CrimRxiv is an international platform that enables open access to criminological scholarship, removing paywalls and promoting transparency, inclusivity, and accessibility in research.
Since its launch in 2020, the platform has shared over 3,000 publications with readers in more than 200 countries. In the last month alone, it received approximately 60,000 unique visitor - a testament to its growing global reach and influence.
I am honoured to take on the role of CrimRxiv鈥檚 Director. Open access ensures that criminological research reaches everyone, everywhere. The CrimRxiv Team is committed to breaking down barriers to knowledge sharing and fostering a more inclusive academic environment.
Dr Buil-Gil is an internationally recognised expert in geographic criminology, small area estimation in crime analysis, measurement error in crime data, innovative data collection methods, and cybercrime. He has served as CrimRxiv鈥檚 Managing Moderator since 2023 - a role he will continue alongside his new leadership post - and has been instrumental in shaping the platform鈥檚 development.
CrimRxiv is transforming criminology from a paywalled discipline into an open-source model,. This mission aligns with the University of 野狼社区鈥檚 broader commitment to open research, supported by the . I鈥檓 excited to build on the strong foundations laid by CrimRxiv鈥檚 founder, Professor Scott Jacques, and my predecessors.
Dr Buil-Gil becomes the fourth Director of CrimRxiv, following Professors and - both based at The University of 野狼社区 - who played pivotal roles in establishing the platform at the University.
